Carl “Doc” Weatherman, age 100 of Valley Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday April 17, 2023, at his home. Born in Avery County, Carl was the eldest son of the late Dent and Floy Hall Weatherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Jewell Boone Weatherman, daughter, Hazel Boone Johnston, son in law Edward Johnston; his, sisters, Cora Robinson, Clara Rathbone and Celena Pritchard and brothers, Carver, Conrad, and Claude Weatherman.
Carl was a veteran of the US Navy where he served seven years and an additional 15 years in the reserves. He was a member of the Newland VFW Pat Ray Post 4286. Although he worked as a brick mason most of his life, growing and selling Daylilies was his passion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and making back scratchers. Earlier this year, he was recognized by the Governor as one of the oldest living residents of Mitchell County.
Left to cherish his memories are his sister, Crandle McClellan of Ingalls; grandchildren, Sherri Oliver-Kirton of Monroe, NC, Lori Johnston of Asheville, NC and Edward Johnston, Jr. and wife Jen of Easley, SC; great-grandchildren, Kevin Oliver, Meranda Kirton, Edward Johnston, III and Bryce Johnston, and a great great grandson, Finn Oliver. Carl is also survived by a village of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
