Gertrude Wilson Huskins, age 89, of Seven Mile Ridge, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 30th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Yancey County, she was one of eleven children to the late George and Bertie Ledford Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Huskins (2011); son, Danny Huskins, Sr.(2006); daughter, Marsha Huskins Murphy (2021); brothers: Jack Wilson, John Wilson, Fred Wilson and Dean Wilson; infant sister, Daphne; an infant brother and several other family members.
Gertrude was a member of Freedom Baptist Church who loved gardening, cooking, quilting and rocking babies. She loved her family dearly and if you ever left her home hungry, it was no one’s fault but your own.
Left to cherish her memories are her sons: Kenneth Huskins (Loretta) and David Huskins (Kathy; son-in-law, Rev. Kent Murphy all of Seven Mile Ridge; brothers: Bill Wilson (Renda) and Clyde Wilson; sisters: Essie Harris (Rev. Lloyd Harris) and Dorothy Parlier all of Morganton; grandchildren: Tonya (Clint), Johnny (Tonya), Vicky (Keith), Wendy (Tracy), Little Danny (Britney), Tyler (Jennifer), Travis (Meghan), Matt (Megan) and Josh (Mindy); sixteen great-grandchildren: Bailey, Levi, Colton, Landon, Gracie, Dereke, Little Johnny, Dylan, Christopher, Cooper, Colby, Cason, Catie, Jason and Emily; four great, great-grandchildren: Zella, Clay, Hailey and Malley and a special friend, Charlotte Huskins. Numerous other extended family members also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 4th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 5th in Freedom Baptist Church. Rev. Matt Murphy, Rev. Brian Wilson and Rev. Lloyd Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kent Murphy to officiate.
