During the K12 years, what happens outside of the classroom can have a huge influence on a student’s overall learning and development. In fact, afterschool and summer programs support the healthy development of young people and are more critical today than ever before. Yet for every one child in an out-of-school program, there are three waiting for a spot. Barriers such as transportation, availability and affordability hinder rural communities from accessing high-quality Out-of-School-Time experiences.
To make Out-of-School-Time experiences more accessible and meet the demands of the youth and families in our communities, Dogwood is launching the WNC After 3pm initiative. As the first step, Dogwood commissioned an inventory of afterschool, weekend and summer opportunities that support our K12 youth across the region.
We invite you to join us for an informational webinar on May 24, 2023, at 12pm to hear the results of this landscape study and how we can make high-quality afterschool and expanded learning programs accessible to all children in WNC, giving them an opportunity to succeed in and out of school.
During the webinar, Elizabeth Anderson, Director of the North Carolina Center for Afterschool Programs (NC CAP), and Dr. Mary Ann Wolf, President and Director of the Public School Forum, will present their findings and offer a high-level analysis in addition to answering questions. The Dogwood Education Team will also share more information about the WNC After 3pm initiative and the Request for Proposals (RFP) opportunity that will open June 15th.
Anyone is welcome to attend this webinar. |
