Gladys Renfro

Gladys Renfro, age 88, of the Tipton Hill Community, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Tabitha Southerland McIntosh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Renfro who passed away in 1995; brothers: Ralph, Frank, Roy and Max McIntosh and sisters: Irene Fox, Beatrice Maney, Ruby McIntosh and Bonnie McIntosh. Gladys was a member of North Bend Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, mowing, flowers and especially spending time with her grandkids. She adored all the kids at Clearmont Elementary School, where she worked for a number of years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a great “mother instinct”, she loved all children.

Surviving is her daughter, Marcella Peterson and husband, Terry, of Burnsville; son, Bobby Renfro and wife, Liz, of Tipton Hill; grandchildren: Chelsey Whitfield and husband, Joshua, of Unicoi, TN and, Heath Renfro and wife, Rebekah, of Tipton Hill; great-grandchildren: Colson Whitfield and Ellie Whitfield; special nieces and nephew: Mike Renfro, Diane Hughes and Donna Renfro and a special friend, Jean Laws. Several other nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Roger Laws, Rev. Blaine Whitson and Rev. Phillip Hughes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Fairview Cemetery on Horton Hill.
