Eulalia “Nina” Cruz, age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 13, 2023. A native of Havana, Cuba, she was a daughter of the late Bartolome and Francisca Echenique Hernandez. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Cruz, and son-in-law, Lee Shackelford.
Nina was an incredible artist who focused on ceramics, and enjoyed doing hand-crafted pottery with her daughter. She also enjoyed her beloved dog, Tito. More importantly, she cherished the time she spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by a daughter, Estela Shackelford of Burnsville; two sons: Nick Cruz (Debbie) of Lakeland, Florida and Miguel Cruz (Lesia) of Green Mountain; five grandchildren: Carrie Marrs of Miami, Florida, Jenean Marrs of Sarasota, Florida, Jarrod Cruz (Brian Stipsis) of Hernando Beach, Florida, Angel Cruz (Shawn Bloszies) of Raleigh, and Michael Cruz of Green Mountain; a great-grandson, Ezekiel Cruz Bloszies of Raleigh; and her beloved dog, Tito.
