Harold D. Grindstaff

Harold D. Grindstaff, age 79, of the Seven Mile Ridge Community, passed away on Wednesday, May 24th, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Lonus and Edna Huskins Grindstaff.  He was also preceded in death by a son, John Grindstaff, who passed away in 1991 and a sister-in-law, Janet Harris Grindstaff.

Harold was a US Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era while stationed in Germany, and thereafter served his country in the Reserves.  During his time in Service, he studied nuclear electrics.  He went on to become a commercial electrician.  He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was known as an incredible cook, and cherished being with his friends and attending family events.  He loved collecting monies for and supporting the Shriners ospitals for Children, always helping and giving to those in need.  If you had ever met Harold, it was evident that he had never met a stranger.

Surviving is his son, David Grindstaff (April) and their boys of Cane River; granddaughter, Jessica Tipton (Michael) of Jacks Creek; great-grandchildren:  Samuel and Sadie Tipton; sisters:  Wanda McKinney (Sherrill) of Blue Rock, Judy Thomas (Danny) of Mine Creek, and Jean Dobbins (Ron) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brothers:  Jack Grindstaff (Judy) of Bowditch, Danny Grindstaff (Gladys) of Marion, and Doug Grindstaff of Old Fort.  Many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends also survive.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31st in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery on Seven Mile Ridge with Rev. Kenneth Forbes officiating.  Military Honors will follow, conducted by the Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter #57 D.A.V.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Black Mountain for the wonderful care and love that has been given to Harold.  The family requests that memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida  33607.
