Hilda Hollifield, age 94, of Chestnut Grove Road in Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine.
Born on June 24, 1928 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Grace Washburn Cox. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Hollifield who passed away in 2013. Also preceding her in death were her brothers; Reid, Lamar, John Ed, and Clark Cox.
Hilda was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she served as the church secretary for many years and was also a Sunday School teacher. She co-owner and operator of the Charm Beauty Shop in Spruce Pine for many years. She enjoyed working in her flowers and was an excellent seamstress. Over the years she used her talents in sewing to make curtains and other items for her church.
Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews. Clayton Glenn stepped in to serve as her primary caregiver for the past several years and did an outstanding job with her care.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:000 pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Greg Burnette, Alvin Carpenter, and Matt Woody officiating. Interment will be in the Burnette Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the staff of Mitchell House for their care of Hilda.
