Give Keith A Good Leg To Stand On

We are a small community, but when one of us falls we pick them up. One of ours, Keith Stewart, needs our help. Many of you know Keith. His family goes back generations in Mitchell County. His Dad, Carl “Moochie” Stewart had strong ties to the Moose Lodge, and Moochie and Keith’s stepmother, Sue, ran the Mountain View for years. Keith survived throat cancer last year. He met that bravely but lost his vocal cords in the process. A few months after the throat surgery, Keith suffered another setback and had his right leg amputated below the knee. These have been life-changing events. Keith is currently living in a camper. One problem is the camper is not handicap accessible.. There is no ramp access to the camper. The camper is very small, has stairs, and is not wheelchair friendly. Keith deserves the basic dignity of having a sense of well-being and some independence back. We can help him. If anyone has a single wide or double wide they can donate it would be very helpful. Our initial goal is to provide Keith with humane living conditions.

To achieve this goal, Aaron and Laura Pherigo will host a benefit dinner on June 17th beginning at 4:00 at their home located at 1980 McKinney Mine Rd, Spruce Pine. Please join us for a wonderful evening with live music and a great dinner. Everyone is invited. Kids under 12 eat for free, hotdogs will be available for them. There will be a Silent Auction and 50/50 drawings throughout the event. Please RSVP by 6/2 via email to keithsfundraiser1@gmail.com to ensure there is enough food to feed everyone. We are asking for a $30.00 donation for the meal. There are several ways you can help. You can make a cash/credit donation to either a Go Fund Me account that can be found by searching “Give Keith a Good Leg to Stand on” on the Go Fund Me site. We will also be accepting items or gift certificates for a Silent Auction. We really need volunteers to help with the event. Anyone that can help, please contact Laura Pherigo at 704-785-7596 See you on the 17Th.
