“This is a funny show. It’s the kind of show audiences love. These same folks wrote The Savannah Sipping Society, which Parkway Playhouse did in 2022, and after one of the performances, I overheard an audience member say, ‘Now if they did shows like this all the time, I would buy a season pass!’” says Alesa Bryant who is playing LaMerle in this upcoming comedy.
If you were lucky enough to catch the sold-out production of The Savannah Sipping Society last year, you might recognize Alesa Bryant from that production. Also joining her from that show is Bonnie Allen-Thomas who is playing Peaches in The Red Velvet Cake War.
In this hilarious show, the eccentric Verdeen Cousins of Sweetgum, Texas are saddled with planning a family reunion despite being neck-deep in personal disasters. In the middle of arrests, psychological evaluations, and an oncoming tornado, the family’s horrid matriarch has challenged Cousin Gaynelle to a high-stakes baking contest.
Melanie Veazey who will be playing Gaynelle says, “Rehearsal for this show has been so joyful. There’s nothing like working on a comedy and finding moments together as a cast that really make you laugh. I’m very much looking forward to playing on stage with my fellow cast members and bringing joy and laughter to the audience.”
