Vincent Paul ‘Vinny’ Bonaminio, age 83, of Dale Hill Road in Bakersville, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on May 2, 1940 in Hamden, CT, he was the son of the late Frank and Susie Signore Bonaminio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law; Kathryn and Bob Macaione.
Vinny was a graduate of the University of Connecticut with a B.S in Plant Sciences. He later earned his Doctorate Degree in Plant Pathology from North Carolina State University. He was retired from Mitchell High School where he served as the Department Chair for the Horticulture Department and was the staff sponsor for the Future Farmers of America Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and making handmade clocks.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-seven years; Paula Pisani Bonaminio of the home; his sons; Jim Bonaminio and wife, Heather of Bakersville and Steve Bonaminio of South Dakota; his granddaughters; Katie Brewer and husband, Hayden of Spruce Pine and Elizabeth Bonaminio of Bakersville; his brother; Bill Bonaminio and wife, Roberta of Connecticut; his nephew; Bobby Macaione and wife, Nancy of Connecticut; his nieces; Ann Wellspeak and husband, Patrick of Connecticut; Susie Bonaminio and Cathy Stokes both of Connecticut; and great nephews; Andrew and Thomas Wellspeak of Connecticut.
In keeping with Vinny’s wishes, there will be no formal services. However, family and friends are encouraged to stop by his home on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm to share memories.
