Joe Ray Hughes, age 62, of Spruce Pine, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of Ann Louise Revis Hughes and the late Sam Jack Hughes. He was also preceded in death by sister, Doris Grindstaff and brothers: Sam “Bo” Hughes and Paul Hughes. Joe was single parent who enjoyed being outdoors, camping, fishing and tubing and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving in addition to his mother Ann is his son, Brian Hughes and wife, Jill, of Jacksonville, NC; daughter, Melissa Ellingwood of Spruce Pine; grandchildren: Peyton, Lincoln and Faith; brother, Charlie Hughes of Spruce Pine and his dogs: Oreo, Little Bit and Lou. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
