SIZZLIN’ SUMMER SERIES – Reading is Alive

Watch a story come to life at this week’s Sizzlin’ Summer Series event on Saturday, June 17th from 10:00 am to noon on the Burnsville Town Square. Professional actors from Parkway Playhouse and Attic Salt Theatre Company will perform their FREE kid-friendly play, The Tale of the Pig at 11 am for the audience to enjoy.

The Tale of the Pig is a hilarious adaptation of a Romanian folktale that uses puppetry and some fast-changing actors to tell the story of Fredrick, the magical pig and a Princess who can’t learn to be happy with what she has. The Tale of the Pig teaches kids the importance of appreciating things in your life and looking for the positives in seemingly challenging situations… and also there’s a giant pig.

The AMY Regional Library Bookmobile will also be there so you can browse for your next summer read or get a free book for children while supplies last. Before the show at 10:30 am, Penland School of Crafts will provide a fun, free craft activity.

A program of Partners Aligned Toward Health, Healthy Yancey is a partnership of concerned citizens working together to improve the quality of health for all people in Yancey County. Healthy Yancey developed the Sizzlin’ Summer Series in an effort to increase connections between neighbors and people, increase physical activity, and create fun ways to play and be active in our community.

Thank you to Parkway Playhouse for making this week’s event possible and The Yancey Fund and the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina for making this year’s Sizzlin’ Summer Series possible!
