Teddy Randolph Vance (Ted) passed away at his home on Monday June 19, 2023, after a brief sickness and will be greatly missed.
A native of Avery County, yet he moved to Burke County in 1970. There he started a family with Eva McClellan with the birth of their daughter Vickie Vance. Unfortunately there was also an infant daughter, Deranda Vance whom passed away right after birth. Then in 1986 along came his pride and joy his granddaughter, Cara. They spent most of their time together on the farm. Whether it was riding horses or the tractor they were always on the move. That was his “Pookie Bear” and he was always giving her Hershey Kisses! Ted was an avid coon hunter, and always raised walking horses. He taught Vickie and Cara all they know about horses. You could always find him on his little gray stud, also known as “Sid”. Along with horses, he always had coon dogs. He was a little rough around the edges, but always had the best intentions. He would always tell you what you needed to hear but didn’t want to. He loved spending time up on the mountain with his brothers and sisters along with the rest of the family. Whether it was a holiday or a weekend he was always there, with his chew of backer.
He is survived by Eva McClellan Vance of Morganton, his daughter, Vickie Vance and significant other Tommy Smith of Morganton, granddaughter, Cara Holley and fiancé Ian Gilliam of Morganton, sister, Brenda Clements (Don) of Rutherford College, brothers, Joe Vance (Linda) of Morganton and Hayden Vance (Rosalie) of Newland, a brother in law Eddie Piercy of Morganton, several nieces and nephews, as well as two great grandsons, Peyton and Dawson Smith whom he loved to give a hard time and aggravate.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Ella Vance of Newland, and infant daughter, Deranda Vance, sisters, Georgie Lee Prather of Newland, Sue Vance of Morganton and Vida Carpenter of Newland, a brother MacArthur Vance of Newland and two nephews Michael Vance of Newland and David Piercy of Morganton.
In keeping with Ted’s wishes a graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday June 21, 2023, in the Green Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Tony Gosnell officiating.
