There is a new program for qualifying Mitchell County’s veterans called VET SMILES. The VET SMILES project provides dental health services to those veterans who meet qualifications at greatly reduced and/or free costs. Project services are provided through the ECU School of Dental Medicine in Spruce Pine. VET SMILES is a partnership between the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine and the Veteran Smiles Foundation. An ECU Smiles for Veterans event is planned for Friday, September 22, 2023 in Spruce Pine. Participating veterans who have their exam and x-rays completed before that date may be eligible to have procedures performed during the event at no cost to them.
