Ila “Marie” Ledford, age 76, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Velma Roland Gouge. She was also preceded in death by the father of her children, Lee Roy Hudgins; son, John Hudgins; two brothers: Bobby and Merlo Gouge; two sisters: Evelyn Biddix and Virginia Harrison; two grandchildren: Lee Roy and Florentino Pahuamba; four great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Davis, Dalton Ledford, and two infants; as well as one great, great-grandchild.
Ila loved harvesting galax, searching for four leafed clovers, and hunting for night crawlers with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing and camping, but more than anything, Ila loved and adored her family.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Juanita Hudgins (Tony) of Burnsville, Ronnie Hudgins (Lora) and Curtis Hudgins (Karen) all of Colberts Creek; grandchildren: Mark, Julie, Jennifer, Alenia, and Dereck; great-grandchildren: Travis, Zack, Maddie, Isaiah, Lucas, Ryan, Desiree, Hunter, Bryson, and Jonah; one great, great-grandchild on the way; and her only living sister, Genevieve Autrey of White Oak. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends at Yancey Funeral Service from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023. At other times, the family will gather at Ms. Ila’s home at 200 West Main Street, Apt 111 in Burnsville. The Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023 in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Keith Miller and Rev. Chad Wise will officiate. Burial will follow in the Westall Cemetery. Pallbearers are: Matt Miller, Dereck Hudgins, Jamie Whitehead, Adam Williams, Isaiah Williams, Lucas Hudgins, Ryan Hudgins, and Hunter Davis.
