On Saturday, June 24th a group of hikers from the Charlotte area embarked on a hike from Mount Mitchell State Park on the Black Mountain Crest Trail. Two of the hikers, a male and a female, separated from the group and became lost. The female was located around 9 pm on Saturday night. The male was located around noon on Sunday. Both hikers were uninjured during the incident.
Members from South Toe Fire Department, Yancey County Emergency Management, Heritage EMS, Mount Mitchell State Park, Yancey Sheriff’s Deputies, and Sheriff’s Dispatchers worked together to locate two missing hikers.
