During the Mitchell County Commissioners meeting on June 5th, Mitchell County Transportation received its 4th Safety Award from the North Carolina Public Transportation Association (NCPTA). It’s worth noting that this marks the third consecutive year that they have received this award.
This year the NC Public Transportation Authority wanted to recognize the people that make public transit a desired mode of transportation, the drivers. Lori Rhodes was nominated by director, Sheila Blalock. Lori is a dedicated transit driver who takes pleasure in her job and passengers, and her passengers appreciate her. She will be the first to volunteer for a difficult trip. In the past, Lori won the local roadeo competition, and last year she came in second. In FY22, Lori drove the most miles for Mitchell County Transportation without any incidents, covering 31,500 miles while maintaining a cheerful disposition. Lori and her husband Randy Rhodes are active members of their church, Fork Mountain Baptist Church. Nicole Buchanan, who always spoke glowingly about her job, informed Lori of the opportunity to drive for MCTA. To learn more about MCTA give us a call at 828-688-4715.
