Jeff “JD” David Doan, Jr., age 79, of West Buncombe County, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Jeff David Doan, Sr. and Lela Taylor Doan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Katrinka “Trink” Webb Doan, who passed away in October 2018; a sister, Margaret Doan; a brother, William Doan; grandson, Dalton Doan; and two dogs: Nugget and Heidi.
He was a 1962 graduate of Cane River High School. He met the love of his life, Trink, and married her in 1963. He was a Mason with the Biltmore Masonic Lodge in Asheville. His working career was spent at Mills Manufacturing, Asheville Police Department, Spartan Express, and then retired from Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department. He and his wife had a seasonal residence at KOA Campground in Cherokee, and enjoyed spending time there with their friends and fishing.
Surviving are his sons: Kendall Doan and wife, Karen of Asheville, and John Doan and wife, Heather of Maryville, TN; sister, Lois Gornto (Norris) of Shelby, NC. Several other family members and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 8th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. A graveside service will follow in the Fairview Cemetery on Horton Hill. Rev. Skip Weiford will officiate. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Burnsville Masonic Lodge #717 A.F. and A.M.
