A three vehicle collision led to the death of one person and two others were seriously injured Thursday morning, July 6th in McDowell County, around 10:20 am.
North Carolina troopers at the scene said one person died and two people were taken to the hospital with critical injuries after a three-vehicle crash.
McDowell County Emergency Management officials said the accident occurred on US-221 near the Woodlawn Gas House business, north of Marion.
North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said a car heading south went left of the center line, hitting two other vehicles that were heading north.
A woman in one of the two cars heading north was killed. Her name has not yet been released. The accident is under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
The highway was closed for more than three hours but was back open by 1:30 p.m., officials said.
