Recently, the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office celebrated the achievement of the most recent graduates of the Detention Officer Certification Course training held at Mayland Community College.
Sheriff Shane Hilliard attended the graduation ceremony for the successful completion and certification of Detention Officer William Smith and Detention Officer Chad Webb.
Detention Officers must successfully complete DOCC training during the first year of employment in any detention facility across the state.
DOCC training consists of 23 blocks of instruction and contains the most current information available for detention officers. The Commission mandated 172-hour course takes approximately 5 weeks to complete and concludes with a comprehensive 200-question written exam.
“Congratulations to Detention Officer Smith and Detention Officer Webb,” said Sheriff Hilliard. “We truly appreciate your hard work and dedication in achieving this goal.”
