Barbara Norville Self, age 68, of Fred Self Road in Spruce Pine, the Little Switzerland community, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born on July 15, 1954 in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Zela Crawley Norville. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Self, Sr. who passed away in 2014. Also preceding her in death was her stepmother, Lib Norville; her sister; Linda Ledford and her sister-in-law; Aileen Fisher.
Barbara was a member of the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she taught the children’s Sunday School Class and worked in Bible school. She was retired from Baxter Healthcare. She loved to cook and bake. Her coconut cake was the baked good that people enjoyed the most. She loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening and canning fruits and vegetables.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Rev. Gene Self and wife, Denise of Spruce Pine; her daughter; Melissa Presnell and husband, Keilin of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Austyn, Laurel, Cash, Madalyn, and Caelyn; her brothers and sisters; Jerry Fisher of Morganton, Vernon Fisher and wife, Jeanette of Morganton, Brenda Daniels of Morganton, Carolyn Lunsford and husband, Ray of Morganton, Betty Hollifield and husband, Danny of Spruce Pine, Junior Norville and wife, Sheila of Morganton, and Kenneth Norville and wife, Belinda of Morganton; her step brother; Keith Huffman and wife, Terri of Morganton and her step sister; Kathy Collins and husband, David of Morganton.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 6:00 pm on Friday, July 14, 2023 at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev’s. Matt Woody, Alvin Carpenter and Gene Self officiating. Interment will be in the Burnette Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” the staff of Atrium Hospital Wake Forest Baptist and particularly, Dr. Brianna Lance for their wonderful care of Barbara during her illness.
