Edna Jean “Jeannie” Parrish

Edna Jean “Jeannie” Parrish, 84, formerly of Clayton, NC and Burnsville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 13th at The Greens of Spruce Pine, formerly the Brian Center of Spruce
Pine, where she has resided since January 7, 2013.

Her service will be Saturday, July 15th at 3:30 p.m. with visitation an hour before in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. A graveside service and burial will be Tuesday, July 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Clayton, NC.

Jeannie was born on April 21, 1939 in Marion, North Carolina to the late Garlin and Nell Sparks. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, James Owen Parrish, and other family members including her brothers-in-law, Gordon Parrish, Johnny Parrish, and Larry Durham, and her sister-in-law, Claudette Parrish.

Jeannie graduated from Micaville High School in 1957 and later met and married her husband, James Owen Parrish in 1966. She left her beloved mountains to move to Clayton,
NC. Jeannie was the homemaker and only learned to drive a car in order to take her daughter Sherry Nyla to school. She was a loving and generous wife and mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Nyla Parrish Kelly (Todd) of Newport, NC. Her grandson, Travis Kelly (Blayke) and great grandsons, Everett Michael Kelly and Weston Alexander Kelly, of Clayton, her brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Wallie Sparks of Burnsville, and her long-time friend and companion, Jim Presnell. In addition she is survived by brother-in-law, Billy Parrish of Clayton, brother-in-law Larry and his wife, Alana Parrish of Durham, sister-in- law, Pat Durham of Clayton, and sister-in-law, Hazel Cannon of Raleigh and Sherry’s Godparents, Billy Wayne and Gail Durham of Raleigh.

The family would like to express their special thanks and appreciation to the staffs of The Greens of Spruce Pine and Hospice of the Blue Ridge, including Lacy, Tammy, Jill, Lena, Holly, Yvette, Brandon, Sierra, Miah, Brandy, and countless others over the years.
