Yancey County Library & County Commissioners held two public hearings recently on the County taking our library out of the regional system & bringing it under county control. As a result of those meetings & strong public feedback favoring the regional system that initiative was made moot. Appeared the commissioners were driven by the need for control and power, not necessarily improving educational resources. Two neighboring counties faced similar initiatives and both were stopped, one required the ACLU to intercede. Great to see our Democracy flourishing however we must remain forever vigilant & hold our county officials accountable.
