The hazy Conditions yesterday continue today across the Western North Carolina Mountains. Monday started as a code yellow air quality day but shifted to a code orange as the Canadian wildfire smoke continued to settle throughout the afternoon.
The code orange alert actually covers 2/3 of North Carolina, from the mountains through the piedmont. Code orange is the 3rd level on the air quality scale following green and then yellow. The orange advisory means prolonged periods of outdoor activity may be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Mitchell County and Yancey County each have air quality alert monitoring devices that are actively tracked by the “airnow.gov” website.
