Julia “Judy” Byrd Buchanan, age 80, of Bakersville, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 17th, 2023 at The Green’s of Spruce Pine.
A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Clare Boone Byrd and wife of the late Wade Phillip Buchanan. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Ann Bailey; grandparents, Carl and Mammy Boone; her brother, Billy Byrd and sister-in-law, Glenda Byrd.
Judy was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, working in her flowers and loved her family dearly.
Surviving is her son, Nathan Buchanan and wife, Sandra, of Bakersville; grandson, David Bailey of Bakersville; great-granddaughter, Gracie Bailey and brothers: Richard Byrd of Jacks Creek and Mike Byrd and wife, Lynn, of Micaville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 20th at Bear Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Dale Buchanan will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the church.
