Friday, July 21st at noon was the end of filing period for partisan and nonpartisan 2023 municipal elections. Several more people joined the early filers in each county. In Spruce Pine Wayne Peight joined Rocky Buchanan, Kimberly Hageman and Sharon McIntosh in the election for the two Town Council seats. The Spruce Pine mayor race is set to be between Lynn Hollar and Phillip Hise. In Bakersville one more person, Alan Blevins, was added to the ballot for the Town Council.
Yancey County also added one more person when John Nicholson Jr. filed for a council seat. This makes three people, Nicholson, Judy Buchanan and Denise Collier seeking to fill the two open Town Council seats.
In Mitchell County the election is for two Town Council seats in Bakersville and two Town Council seats in Spruce Pine plus the Mayor seat in Spruce Pine.
