Mitchell County veterans are encouraged to apply for the Blue Ridge Honor Flight program, which resumes operations on October 14, 2023.
Started in 2005, Blue Ridge Honor Flight recognizes America’s war veterans for their service and sacrifice by flying them all-expenses paid to Washington DC for a personal day of honor. The organization flies World War II Veterans and will continue as long as there are World War II Veterans. The organization also flies Korean War Veterans, Vietnam War Veterans and veterans of any conflict who may have a life limiting illness.
To participate in the program, veterans are requested to download and complete an application which includes a medical history section used to evaluate the veteran’s qualifications for the program. Blue Ridge Honor Flight then reaches out to those who qualify to arrange the trips.
For more information and to download the application, please visit the Veterans Services page on the Mitchell County Government website at www.mitchellcountync.gov/ departments/veterans-services and click/tap the Blue Ridge Honor Flights section.
