It does seem rather odd that Madison, Mitchell, and Avery Counties would risks loosing their funds to meet the need of their students, but Yancey won’t. Wonder why that is? Free food for ALL students is equity while some of the federal and state programs only targets specific populations of students. Yancey is providing FREE school supplies for all students. I’m sure parents do appreciate that, but it pales in comparison to free meals for an entire school year. According to the NCDPI website, Yancey does qualifiy for all students to have free food. Looking forward to Yancey’s school board revisiting this option. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
