Kathleen Hall Allen age 92 of Spruce Pine passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Trinity Ridge Skilled Nursing facility in Hickory, NC from a prolonged illness.
She was born in Spruce Pine to the late Howard and Connie McKinney Hall.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lewis Allen, her son, Michael Allen and her infant daughter, Gloria Jean Allen. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William, Jack, James, Wayne, Sidney and Harry Hall, and her sisters Mary Lou Howell and Margaret Robinson.
Kathleen was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church, and was retired from American Thread in Marion, NC. She also worked in the Mitchell County School system in the reading program. She loved to read and wanted to share that love of reading with the children. Kathleen enjoyed the time she spent in different parts of the country during her husband Lewis’s 20-year Naval career. She made lifetime friendships during that time. She also always liked to spend time at the beach and would go every chance she got.
She is survived by her son David (Trenda) Allen, her daughter, Linda (Woody) Collins and a sister Martha (Eddie) Williams. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Kelly (Adi) Allen, Wesley (Brittany) Allen, Tyler (Christie) Allen, Andrea (Jimmy) Brokaw and Alaina Collins, six great grandchildren and twenty-two nieces and nephews.
Kathleen loved her large family and enjoyed spending time with them.
A memorial service for Mrs. Kathleen Allen will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday August 12, 2023, at the Grassy Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Self officiating. The family will hold a private inurnment in the McKinney Gap Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grassy Creek Baptist Church or to the Mitchell County Meals on Wheels program.
