Gerald Ray ‘Jerry’ Westall, 68, of the South Toe community, passed away on August 6, 2023 after a period of declining health. Born on April 13, 1955, he was the son of the late Alna John and Frankie Simmons Westall. A 1974 graduate of East Yancey High School, Jerry was a hard worker. He spent several decades working in golf course maintenance at Mt. Mitchell Golf Course, other golf courses around Western North Carolina and even a stint at Augusta National in the late 1980s.
Jerry is survived by his son, Stefan Cole Westall; three older brothers: Mickey (Gail), Richard and Ralph Westall, all of South Toe. Also surviving are nephews: Lance Westall, Adam Westall (Tonya), niece and caregiver, Cassie Burleson (Tim); great-niece and caregiver, Jordan Burleson and former sister-in-law and friend, Joan Westall. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Loren Westall. Many other cousins and relatives remain to mourn him, as well as a host of friends.
Jerry was a loving father, brother and son and an excellent uncle. He was well liked by all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
There will be a graveside service at a later date. Details will be shared when they are finalized.
