Betty Adeline Ledford Hurst, age 83, went home to her Heavenly Rest on Thursday, August 10, 2023. She was a native of Yancey County, and lived in the Cane River Community. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Ledford, and her first husband, George Hurst. She was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles and cousins as well.
Betty was born in 1940, married after high school, then had one son, Billy Hurst. She later worked as a hairdresser in Yancey County and in Swansboro, NC for 36 years. In 2000, she moved back to Yancey County to care for her mother. She then became a CAP Program worker until she retired in 2010.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene Gardner, and her son, Billy Hurst. Also surviving her are numerous cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16th at Prices Creek Union Baptist Church. Rev. Rick Bennett will officiate. Burial will follow in the Scott Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15th at Yancey Funeral Services.
