Yancey County Commissioners meeting last evening didn’t have its agenda posted until 5 pm on the day of the meeting! After a couple earlier meetings with our Library Board, the County Commissioners & Yancey residents it “appeared” the Commissioners would permit the status quo, i.e. our Library would be an operation independent free of political guidance/interference & be an open, welcoming, non-denominational, institution for all Yancey citizens to enjoy. Oh how wrong n mislead we citizens were. Last evening the Commission did a 180 degree turn & now wants to dictate library policy & activities. One neighboring county in the AMY Regional System was helped by the ACLU as that county’s commission violated it’s bylaws. Makes ya wonder if we’ll have to do likewise in Yancey doesn’t it. Remember in the 1930’s Germany reverted to Fascistism because good people did nothing! See y’all at the next Commissioners monthly meeting!
