Yancey History Association, a nonprofit, will hold a fundraiser at Homeplace Beer Company on Friday, August 18, from 5 – 8 p.m. in their ongoing effort to replace the shake roof on the 1840s McElroy House in the Museum Complex (incorrect date and information was posted in the newspaper about this event – it is on Friday evening, not Saturday evening). There will be a number of silent auction and raffle items, including a beautiful, mint condition, never-used, heritage king/queen quilt hand-pieced many years ago by Alice McIntosh with help from the ladies at Yancey Senior Center (donated by Patty and David McIntosh). Other items include local pottery by Ken and Galen Sedberry, Pete and Kim McWhirter, hammered copper humming bird by Robert Pike, a hand-crafted side-table by Steve Johnson, artwork, jewelry, and more. Local history books of interest will also be available to purchase. There will be a table upstairs at Homeplace with information, and the YHA tent with silent auction/raffle items will be in the courtyard near the stage. Come enjoy food from Hog Hollow Pizza, beverages. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. on the outdoor stage. Join us! We would love to see you Friday night.
