Frank C. Baskin age 91 of Spruce Pine passed away Friday August 18, 2023, at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born in Anderson County, SC he was the son of the late Hartgrove and Ada Moore Baskin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Baskin Stovall and his grandson, Yonick Callen Maree.
Frank was an active member of the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church for 50 years, where he served on several church committee’s, and enjoyed his time, travels, and fellowship with the Mission teams.
Frank served in the US Navy aboard the USS Frontier, and several ports of call in the Pacific. After an honorable discharge Frank spent his career as an Industrial Engineer in South and North Carolina finally retiring from Henredon Furniture, in 1996.
He often spent his free time enjoying woodworking, and had a love of deep sea fishing. Frank was a good athlete in his younger years playing many different sports, earning Athlete of Year from Iva High in 1949-50. He also enjoyed watching his beloved Clemson football, Duke basketball, and the Braves.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Lila Smith Baskin of the home, sons, Jon Baskin of Cartersville, GA, Gary Baskin and wife Arlene of Columbia, MD, Danny Willis and wife Wanda of Morganton, and Alan Willis and wife Wendy of Piedmont, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Mr. Baskin will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday August 26, 2023, at the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Schilling officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations are asked to be made either to Hospice and Home Care of the Blue Ridge, or to the Spruce Pine United Methodist Church’s Living Tree project 11090 Hwy 226 S. Spruce Pine, NC 28777
