McDowell Kidnapping and Stabbing Charge

A 45-year-old man is facing felony charges, including kidnapping, after being accused of running a driver off the road in McDowell County and stabbing them.

In a report from The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office they say on the night of Friday, Aug. 18, deputies responded to the intersection of Breezy Hill Drive and Bat Cave Road for a domestic event occurring on the highway. Once on the scene, they observed a vehicle down the embankment being held by trees with no passengers in it.

The caller had told authorities that he was on the phone with the driver when she was run off the road by someone.

Deputies searched the area for the suspect’s vehicle but were unable to locate it.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Robert Andrew Higgins, was arrested a short time later by officers from the Asheville Police Department.

The female victim, who had sustained multiple stab wounds, was located at Mission Hospital.

Higgins was charged with felonious second-degree kidnapping and felonious assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was issued a $500,000 secured bond.
