Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department has arrested Austin John Lee Franklin, age 24 of Laurel Ridge Drive, Spruce Pine for reportedly stabbing his mother’s boyfriend. Franklin is accused of stabbing the man on Saturday, August 26th. According to the sheriff’s department, all subjects were heavily intoxicated. The stabbing victim was flown to Mission Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. Franklin has been charged with Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to to Kill or Cause Serious Injury. A $100,00 bond has been set with a court date of September 20, 2023.
