Estle Lee Henson, age 88, of Lynn Gap Road in Spruce Pine, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on March 22, 1935 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Cora Weatherman Henson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers; Dan, Bill, and Howard Henson and his sister; Melba Clement.
Estle was a member of the Jonas Ridge Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had traveled the world extensively. He was a musician, sportsman, scholar, adventurer, but most importantly a son, a brother, a beloved uncle, friend and devoted father and grandfather.
Through Estle’s life he worked and lived life to the fullest, finally settling in Spruce Pine. To only know him later in life, one might have missed the full gamut of who he was. He could easily pick up multiple languages, he lived for music and it was said that there was not an instrument that he could not pick up and play. As a gun enthusiast, there was not a weapon that he could not tell you about in minute detail. He had a memory near photographic, that would amaze you with the extent of his knowledge. The space that will be left behind in Estle’s absence is simply immeasurable and the rippling affect of the loss to be felt forever by those who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter; Rebecca Ranucci of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his grandchildren; Dylan, Joseph, and Isabella; and many nieces and nephews.
