Floyd Williams, age 89, of NC 226 North in Spruce Pine, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 at the home of his son, Rev. Steve Williams in Bakersville.
Born on March 20, 1934 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late John E. and Flossie Rushing Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-four years, Carolyn Ann Williams who passed away in 2011. Also, preceding Floyd in death was an infant son, Floyd T. Williams, Jr.; his brother-in-law; Ralph Wallace and a nephew, Eddie Wallace.
Floyd was a member of the Berry Chapel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. He loved his church and church family. He also loved singing in the choir, solo’s at church, and singing with the Golden Age Singers. He looked forward to the Berry Chapel Song of the Year which he wrote and sung at the churches annual church picnic. He enjoyed attending Bible Study at the Mitchell Senior Center each week and the fellowship with all the other senior citizens. He had served as deacon, taught Sunday School and RA’s many years ago at church in Monroe, NC. He was retired from Charlotte Pipe following thirty-two years of service.
Floyd was a Gideon for twenty-seven years and it was one of his greatest blessings. He was able to hand out countless Bibles and share his faith in many churches with many people. His greatest gift was telling people about his Jesus and he was always looking for the next person to share Jesus with. He didn’t want to see anyone miss Heaven and go to Hell. Also, with this gift he was an avid writer of poetry which he wrote a book of poems for each book of the Old Testament in the Bible. He loved the ladies at Never2Scarred Recovery/Hope House. He enjoyed attending Celebrate Recovery at Bear Creek Baptist Church and seeing men and women wanting to turn their lives around. Another of his gifts was the gift of gab. He loved to talk and laugh with people as they shared life events and meals together. He will surely be missed.
