There was no indoctrination in my 60s and 70s rural mountain education and community. We, and the adults around us, talked about God all the time. We, and the adults around us even attended each other’s churches together. No one, however, was allowed to indoctrinate other people”s children into the belief’s of a particular teacher or church. We even discussed God in classes where the topic of God was relevant, like in history courses. Just no indoctrination. I am constantly amazed at what some people assume about others. And it is mind boggling to me how effective those blinders had to be for some people to have not been able to see and understand what was going on around them to people who were not them. But I guess that’s a lack of imagination on my part because the same people have a pretty narrow view of what’s going on today as well. Their us-and-them world doesn’t even include the majority of Christians, thank God.
