Music In the Mountains Folk Festival will be 5-8 PM, Saturday September 16th, at Homeplace Beer Company & Hog Hollow Pizza, on West Main Street in Burnsville. MITM is sponsored by Toe River Arts, and includes bluegrass and traditional music, ballad singing, and dancing. This year we are including workshops in the afternoon: Ballad Singing with Donna Ray Norton, Flatfooting with Phil Jamison, and Mountain Dulcimer with Don Pedi. The evening concert will feature emerging musicians Newfound Gap, ballad singer Donna Ray Norton, old time musicians Roger Howell & Jerry Sutton, and Carolina Bluegrass Style. There will also be traditional craft vendors showing their wares throughout the day & evening. Each year the festival recognizes an honoree for their contribution to the preservation of traditional music. The 2023 festival honorees are Joyce Johnson and Denise Cook in appreciation for their dedication to the Music In the Mountains Festival since its earliest days.
