The Weaverville man charged with attempted murder in the Mars Hill carjacking of a postal worker made his first court appearance September 8th before Judge Gary Gavenus in Madison County Superior Court. Jaden Garay, age 23, is charged with attempted first-degree murder. According to authorities he shot mail carrier Teresa Ramsay before stealing her Jeep and leading police on a manhunt. He was captured early in the morning of September 6th in Morganton. Ramsey has worked for the US Postal Service since 2017.
Garay is currently being held at the Madison County jail on a $2 million secured bond with his next court date set for October 9th.
Teresa Ramsay’s daughter, Scarlet Ramsay, started a GoFundMe page to help with the medical costs associated with her mother’s injury. On the page, Scarlet Ramsay lists the injuries saying her mother underwent surgery September 8th to remove her left eye and perform facial reconstruction.
As of Tuesday evening, September 12th, the GoFundMe page has raised $20,395.
