This past weekend, we hosted our first-ever Appalachian Playwriting Festival featuring staged readings 3 scripts, directed by 3 directors, and performed by 14 actors. We also partnered with the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival for a special playwriting workshop they hosted here at The Playhouse on Friday.
The sense of community, the conversations we had, and the experience was more than we could have asked for and we’re so grateful.
It is with great excitement that we announce that Minister of Sorrow written by Pam Kingsley is the winner of this inaugural festival and will be fully produced on our stage in May 2024!
This was such a hard decision for our judges and not one they came to lightly. All the scripts that were a part of our festival were so phenomenal and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.
We want to again thank everyone who made this festival possible from our talented playwrights, our script readers, judges, directors, actors, and our wonderful audience members. THANK YOU!
Mark your calendars, script submissions for our 2024 Appalachian Playwriting Festival will open in October 2023 and our next festival will be in September 2024!
