Mary Deyton Sparks, age 71, of Boone Street in Spruce Pine, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.
Born on November 15, 1951 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Fate B. and Betty Laws Deyton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters; Carolyn Ray and Joan Deyton. As a child, Charlotte Anglin took Mary under her wing provided the greatest care for her.
Mary was retired from the Avery-Mitchell Correctional Facility and had a twenty-four year career in Nursing. Following her retirement, she spent twelve years working at Ingles in Spruce Pine and she loved her time there. She enjoyed warm sunny days and working in her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking for family, friends and visitors in her home and talking with her family as often as possible.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; Joseph Sparks of Spruce Pine; her sister; Gail Robinson and husband, Jerry of Burnsville; her brother; Charles Deyton and wife, Patricia of Burnsville; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Webb Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
