Windol Ray Gates, age 68, of the Possum Trot Community, passed away on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 at his home.
A native of Charlotte, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Sherrin Gates. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Diane Woodward Gates; son, Stephen Boyer and a brother, Charles “Chuck” Gates.
Windol loved to travel, animals of all kinds, NASCAR racing, fishing, collecting coins and knives and riding his motorcycle.
Surviving is daughter, Wendi Cooke and husband, Danny, of Granite Falls; sons: Chris Gates and wife, Tammy, of Mt. Holly and Jasper Gates of Gastonia; grandchildren: Brittany, Lauren, Jordan, Tiffany, Savannah, Brandon, Bethany, Mercedes, Sandra, Rachel, Maverick, Lauren Samuel and Garrett; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Darlene Brown of Burnsville and brothers: Jackie Smith (Lori) of Burnsville and Ronnie Gates and wife, Diane, of Hendersonville. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
