Alfreda Parker Hughes, age 69, of Hamburg Road in Bakersville, the Bear Creek community, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals in Asheville.
Born on February 21, 1954 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late J.C. and Alma Hoilman Parker Pate. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers; Rocky Parker and Robin Parker and an infant sister.
Alfreda attended Western Carolina Church in Spruce Pine. She was retired from the Mitchell County Schools with twenty-five years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed working on crafts, working in her garden and camping trips.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of forty-nine years; Mark Hughes of the home; her step father; Reece Pate of Crabtree; her sisters-in-law; Diana Parker of Crabtree and Wanda Smith Burleson and husband, Royce of Spruce Pine; her nephews; Clay Parker and wife, Lucia of South Toe and Billy Hoyle and wife, Susan of Avery County; her nieces; Holly Parker and Josh Roberts of Bakerville and Lisa Forney and husband, Sherman of Spruce Pine; and her great nieces and nephews; Layla, Grayson, and Hayden Parker; Tre Carson; and Katie and Charlie Roberts.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Western Carolina Church. The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Western Carolina Church with the Rev. Andy Willis officiating. Interment will be in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
