The Mitchell and Yancey Chamber of Commerce groups will receive two of six grants for MADE X MTNS (Made by Mountains) in the first round of grants for the Building Outdoors Communities Program. This Fund provides micro-grants to non-profits, for-profits, community groups and sole proprietors located in Western North Carolina focused on advancing equity and inclusion in outdoor recreation access and opportunity in the outdoor economy.
Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce’s grant will be used to fund a Toe River Outdoor Recreation Guide. Yancey County’s Chamber also received funds and will use them to form the Explore Burnsville Wayfinding Master Plan. According to Yancey Chamber Executive Director Christy Wood, the funds will allow the county to create a master plan for signage for tourism.
This funding is a part of a three year “Accelerating Outdoors Grant” for MADE X MTNS by the Appalachian Regional Commission.
