Everyone’s Great Library

Don’t get me wrong, I think the AMY library system in general and even the Yancey Library in particular is stellar. But part of the reason it is stellar is that it has been nonpartisan. Nothing in the previous post supporting the library supports the specious statement that “…an educated citizenry has never been favorable to the GOP!…” The GOP was founded in 1854 by anti-slavery activists. For much of the history of our country, region, state and counties, an educated populace favored the GOP and was needed to fight the excesses of the Democratic Party which for much of its history favored the interests of slave states. The parties as we know them today are very different than they have been historically. I’d argue that both parties seem to have lost sight of what an educated populace really is or what that means. That’s why I think supporting our nonpartisan library system is particularly important.
