It’s obvious that the New Jersey Democratic Senator is considered to be a liability and if he is proven guilty had put our national security at risk. Smart politicians aren’t going to try to defend that. It’s a risk New Jersey Democrats aren’t willing to take. No one has to be willing to sacrifice anyone to figure that out. On the purely political side of the equation, the Democratic governor surely wants to appoint a replacement while he has that power, not go through an ugly primary that could threaten a Democratic Senate seat in New Jersey. This isn’t about who is in the White House or distraction or lambs of any kind, sacrificial or not.
