It’s Fall in the mountains, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is starting to glow. Birds flying south; bees heading for their hives; trees dripping with ripe apples. And with less than a month left in the Orchard’s 2023 season, the red barn buzzes with activity
Performances on It’s Fall in the mountains, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is starting to glow. Birds flying south; bees the pavilion began with Highland Highlights on the first, followed by Kuhne & Craigie, Buffalo Cove, The Scatterlings, Hardy Boys, Skiffle Creek, William Ritter, and Homegrown on subsequent Saturdays and Sundays. To finish off the month and our 2023 season, Sam McKinney will take everyone home to the mountains in song. Concerts are from 2 to 4 and always free.
On October 28, 12:30 to 1, Caitlyn Yount returns to the pavilion stage for a third time. Her performance is part of a requisite to receiving honors credit for her high school concert band class. However, this year, she brings fellow high school musicians (grades 9-12)—The Fellowship of the Knights—for a special performance featuring jazz and Irish Folk tunes. All are invited to sit, listen, and applaud the next generation to save the good stuff.
The grill is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 to 4; “Heyrides” on the weekends, 12:30 and 2:30 (weather dependent, of course); U-Picking from Wednesday through Sunday at the top of every hour from 10 to 4; bagged apples available from 10 to 5 from the Apple Shed; and the music jam, open to all, on Thursdays from 1 to 3. Still some tiny trees to “plant” on the model railroad property and monarchs to hang on their overwintering tree. We invite you to spend a bit o’ time at the Orchard before we close for the season. Experience Fall in the Blue Ridge Mountains on our back deck.
