Old Timey Fall Festival Saturday in Burnsville!

Pack up the kids and your lawn chairs for the Old Timey Fall Festival on the Burnsville Town Square this coming Saturday, September 30.  From 10 am to 4pm, there’ll be something for everyone, and prizes!  Try your hand at the nail-driving contest with Chuck Carlson.  PATH will be offering children’s games.  New vendors this year include kettle corn and cotton candy.

Residents and visitors alike can expect a good old-fashioned festival celebrating local heritage, just as they have for well over 20 years.  Crafters will be demonstrating and/or selling their handmade items.  The stage will be hopping the whole day with old-time string music and song and dance – plus announcements of raffle winners by emcee Jim Parlier.

The day will kick off with the color guard and National Anthem, followed by the antique car parade, organized by Shane Dale.  This year, the fifty cars on display (see the website for details) will receive commemorative dash plaques.  Games and contests for children (including the barrel rides) and adults will be featured as usual – but we have a new contest:  the Pat Hepburn Lookalike Contest!  (Got to the website to see the man pictured on the tractor.  That is longtime Old Timey Fall Festival leader Pat Hepburn, who has retired.)  There’s only one rule for this contest:  You must be 12 or under to enter!

This wonderful festival is made possible by our generous local sponsors: Garden Deli, Snap Dragon, Pig and Grits, Something Special Gift Shop, Fox Country Store, Monkey Business Toy Store, Banks Jewelers, Yancey Farm Bureau, Lamp Post Vintage Market, Main Street Shoes, Gem Mountain on Main, Robertson Sign & Design, Yancey Graphics, Appalachian Java Café, Heritage Lumber, Carolina Mountain Realty, Hal & Diane Coleman, Mountain Time on Main Street, United Community, Hammond’s Antiques, Digs Home & Design, Sharon’s Salon, Cruz Chiropractic, and Jill’s Hairport.
